Parental marital conflicts and long-term mental health of the children
Being a victim of this problem, I did not have any difficulty in analyzing this type of stuff.
A home is a child’s refuge of love and care. Children need to feel loved, secure and comfortable to express themselves fully. If children see parents constantly fighting and arguing at home, it creates a sensation of panic within the child. They feel frightened and helpless. These feelings of vulnerability and insecurity can shape a child’s personality and last a lifetime.
👀Introduction:
Toxic interactions, disagreements, insults, physical altercations, and harsh arguments of parents are some of the factors which affect the mental health of the children. It does not just revolve around a young kid but also affects those who are as young as 6 months old. Children of all ages are impacted by parents fighting. When the arguments get out of hand it can affect the parent-child relationship and create a panic situation. While living in a high conflict family, kids have more difficulty regulating their attention and emotions.
👀Long-Term Mental Health Effects:
Children, who come from dysfunctional families and are victims of domestic abuse, show the following signs:
👉Social & Behavioral Problems
👉Mental & Emotional Problem
👉Relationship Problems
👉Academic Performance
👉Negative outlook on Life
👀How to overcome this scenario:
✨Never fight in front of your children ✨Respect each other in front of your children ✨Don’t create a situation which would require your child to take sides ✨Be mindful of the language and tone you use with each other ✨Talk to children about arguments and differences in opinions. Show them how to responsible adults resolve conflicts ✨Don’t involve your children when you are arguing with each other. Don’t make it about them ✨If you do happen to fight in front of your children, then ensure to resolve the fight in front of them too ✨Keep ego out of the argument and never play the blame game. Where there is genuine love and care, there is no room for ego!
